RESOLUTION RATIFYING THE DECLARATION OF
STATE OF LOCAL EMERGENCY FOR
WISE COUNTY
WHEREAS, recent lack of rainfall and drought conditions have caused a severe raw water supply shortage to retail water customers residing in Wise County; and
WHEREAS, those conditions have reached critical levels and present a threat to life and property necessitating a declaration of a state of emergency in Wise County, Virginia; and
WHEREAS, Supervisor Ronald Shortt, Director of Emergency Services for Wise County, at 4 p.m., Wednesday, October 31, 2007 determined that a water emergency should be declared; and
WHEREAS, Article 44, Section 146.21(A) of the Code of Virginia requires confirmation of said state of emergency declaration by the Board of Supervisors at its first regularly scheduled meeting after the declaration was issued.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Wise County Board of Supervisors confirms the declaration of a water emergency made October 31, 2007 alerting and/or activating the response and recovery programs of all applicable local and inter-jurisdictional emergency operations plans and authorizing the furnishing of aid and assistance according to those plans.
FURTHER, the Board of Supervisors prohibits all non-essential uses of water and requires conservation efforts to reduce water usage on all users of public water for the protection of and for the health, safety, and welfare of the residents of Wise County.
