Big Stone Gap Tornado Relief Efforts
The Gap Partnership has set up a Tornado Relief Fund for anyone that wants to make a monetary donation to help with the losses sustained during this tragedy. All monetary donations can be mailed to The Gap Partnership Tornado Relief Fund, P.O. Box 236, Big Stone Gap, VA 24219 or stop by our office located at the Lonesome Pine Tourist Center, 101 Train Car , 619 Gilley Avenue, Big Stone Gap, VA.
Also, First Bank & Trust is collecting donations to be sent to the Gap Partnership.
This is just part of the efforts of this organization to ensure that as many families as possible will be helped.
We are also serving in a partnership with Mountain Empire Community College, Mountain Empire Older Citizens, BSG Ministerial Assoc., Wise County, Crooked Road and the Town of Big Stone Gap to sponsor a Benefit Concert on Friday, March 28th at MECC's Goodloe Center. Admission will be $10. per person. Time is TBA at a later date. Please put this date on your calendar and help us make this a successful event. All proceeds will go to the Relief Fund.
We are asking for Corporate Sponsors for this event at $250, $500 & $1000 levels. These gifts will be tax deductible. Please contact our office at 276-523-2060 if you need any further information.

If significant rainfall eliminates the current low water levels, these mandatory water conservation measures will be lifted.

- Filling and replenishing to maintain health and safety are permitted. All other uses are prohibited.

Paved areas |
- Washing is prohibited except for health and safety requirements.

Vehicle washing |
- Non-commercial washing of vehicles is prohibited. Commercial vehicle washing businesses are permitted to operate under normal conditions.
|
Established landscaping, lawns, and vegetable gardens |
- Watering is prohibited in excess of five gallons per day.
|
New landscaping |
- All watering is permitted for the first 30 days after planting. Thereafter, the restriction for established landscaping shall apply.
|
Restaurants |
- Water shall be served to customers only upon request.
|
Street, building or window washing |
- Washing is prohibited except for health and safety requirements.
|
All other businesses |
- Water use is limited to essential for business use and human hygiene.
|
Violations of the prohibition will result in a written warning for the first violation, a $50 fine for the second, and a $100 fine for each subsequent violation. Notice will be given when the prohibition is no longer in effect.

Should Towns with separate water systems adopt more stringent restrictions on water usage, those restrictions shall apply to users on that system.

Wise County Office of Emergency Operations is now offering Teen Citizens Emergency Response Training (CERT) classes. The classes are free. Each successful participant will be given a free CERT kit. Our trainer will be meeting with officials from Wise County Schools to develop this program in the schools, as well as other youth organizations. Please contact Jane Bennett or Jason Custer, Trainer, by calling 276-328-8439. Locations will be determined as classes begin to form.
We are also offering adult CERT classes. The classes are 20 hours and can be arranged to accommodate your, or your organizations schedules. Please call Jane Bennett, EOC Coordinator on 276-328-8439 for additional information.
