Tax bills may currently be paid by the following methods:

The Direct Payment program allows you to make payments on your Wise County taxes automatically each month.  When you enroll in the Direct Payment program, we will deduct the amount you choose to be applied to your local taxes monthly.  The deduction will be on or about the 5th day of each month.  The best method in calculating your monthly payments would be to take the current year's tax amount and divide by twelve.  To sign up for the Direct Payment Plan, you first need to complete and sign an authorization form.  This may be picked-up at the Treasurer's Office or one may be mailed to you.

Credit Card Payments

Pay online at or by calling 1-866-483-8829.

Tax bills can be paid by check, credit card check, money order or cashier's check, payable to the order of the Wise County Treasurer and mailed to:

Wise County Treasurer
PO Box 1308
Wise VA 24293

After tax tickets have been mailed, tax payments may be made at participating banks, in Wise County provided total amount due is paid.  You need not have an account at the bank, nor is there a fee for this service.  Banks will accept payments until May 31, 2019 and October 31, 2019.  After that date payments should be made to the Wise County Treasurer Office.

Area banks participating are:

  • First Bank & Trust in Wise & Norton
  • Miner's Exchange in Coeburn, Norton, Appalachia, Wise & St Paul
  • Powell Valley National in Wise & Big Stone Gap
  • New Peoples Bank in Pound, Esserville & Big Stone Gap

When paying by mail, mail the smaller portion of the ticket(s) to ensure proper credit.  The larger portion will serve as your receipt unless otherwise requested on current year taxes.
