OCTOBER 15 DEADLINE TO PAY COUNTY TAXES

Wise County 2009 personal property and 2nd half real estate taxes are now due. 

Taxes may be paid at the following banks: First Bank & Trust in Wise & Norton, all Miners Exchange Banks, New Peoples Bank in Pound, Esserville, and Big Stone Gap, and Powell Valley National Bank in Wise and Big Stone Gap.  You may also mail your payment to the Wise County Treasurer, PO Box 1308, Wise VA 24293.

If you wish to pay by credit card call 1-800-272-9829 or log on to officialpayments.com, jurisdiction code 1009.  A convenience fee will be charged.

If you have a question on the taxed item, please call the Commissioner of Revenue's Office at (276) 328-3556 or (276) 328-3557.

If you have not received a tax ticket for property owned, please contact the Wise County Treasurer’s Office immediately at (276) 328-3666.

After the due date, penalty will be added to taxes that have not been paid.  The penalty is 10% or $2.00, whichever is greater.  However, the penalty shall in no case exceed the amount of the original tax.  An additional 8% interest per year will be added  November 1, 2009.

Due to the 1998 Personal Property Tax Relief Act, the tax on the first $20,000 of value of your personal car, motorcycle, and pickup or panel truck under 7,501 pounds, which is a qualifying vehicle, has been reduced by 61% this year.  Any local tax increase above the $1.15 base rate is not part of the car tax relief.  The tax of a qualified vehicle valued at $1,000.00 or less is eliminated.  On the 2009 Personal Property tax tickets, this reduction is listed under the column "tax relief".

2010 DECALS NOW ON SALE

We now have the 2010 decals on sale which will be due by April 15, 2010.  These decals will be good through April 15, 2011.  All personal property and mobile home taxes must be paid prior to purchase. The following information is needed before issuance of county decals in order to verify current vehicle(s) ownership:
