IN RE: SPECIAL CALLED MEETING
Chairman Adkins stated that two Board members have requested a Special Called meeting for the purpose of authorizing the County Administrator to execute the agreement and the necessary documents requesting unused State funds for the purchase of a mobile tent unit to be utilized by the Wise County Health Department.
Mr. Scott explained that the LENOWISCO Health District has received CDC funding in the amount of $157,766 to purchase a STIP (Stabilization and Treatment in Place) tent that would be utilized as a regional resource. The STIP tent will be housed in the LENOWISCO Health District and has numerous potential uses ranging from a mobile hospital to an incident command post.
The tent has sufficient space for approximately 25 beds for surge capacity and up to six beds that can be utilized for negative pressure isolation. A STIP tent proved very valuable at the RAM event at the Wise County fairgrounds during the past three years.
Currently, there are no mobile hospital units in far southwest Virginia. Coordination and activities essential to emergency preparedness and response will be significantly enhanced with the addition of the STIP unit. Funding has been approved by EP&R for LENOWISCO to procure this equipment at no cost to the County.
Mr. Scott reviewed the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between the Virginia Department f Health LENOWISCO Health District and the County of Wise setting for the respective undertakings, the Department and the Contractor (the County) agree upon.
He further noted that the State must have a response by August 7 or the funding will be used elsewhere.
IN RE: STIP TENT – HEALTH DEPARTMENT
A motion was made by Virginia Meador, seconded by Ronnie Shortt, for the County to be the contractor and the recipient of the funds to assist the LENOWISCO Health District in financing the STIP tent and to authorize the Acting County Administrator to sign the MOA and any documentation regarding this transaction. The motion was unanimously approved.
RECESS
There being no further business, a motion was made by Ronnie Shortt, seconded by Fred Luntsford, to adjourn the meeting. The motion was unanimously approved.
