Wise County Board of Supervisors met in a Workshop Meeting
on Thursday, June 7, 2001, at 6:00 p.m. in the Board of Supervisors
meeting room located in the Wise County courthouse. The following were present:

HEARING/UTILITY EASEMENT/JOE MULLINS
A public
hearing was duly advertised for this date to receive citizens'
comments regarding a proposed utility easement for Joe Mullins
to cross the Dorchester Community Center property to get
water to his property.
Susie
Gibson & Joe Mullins asked that the Board approve this
request because this is the only means to get water to their
property.
There
being no further comments, the public hearing was closed.

HEARING/ PROPOSED ORDINANCE ABATING LEVIES ON BUILDINGS
RAZED OR DESTROYED
A public
hearing was duly advertised for this date to receive citizens'
comments regarding a proposed ordinance abating levies on
buildings razed or destroyed.
There
being no one to speak for or against the proposed ordinance,
the public hearing was closed.

RE: PUBLIC
HEARING/PROPOSED ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR A PARTIAL YEAR
ASSESSMENT
A public
hearing was duly advertised for this date to receive citizens'
input regarding a proposed ordinance providing for a partial
year assessment of certain real property that is pro-rated
depending upon its status of structure or occupancy.
There
being no one to speak for or against the proposed ordinance,
the public hearing was closed.

RE: PUBLIC
HEARING/PROPOSED ORDINANCE IMPOSING A TRANSIENT OCCUPANCY
TAX
A public
hearing was duly advertised for this date to receive citizens'
input on a proposed ordinance imposing a transient occupancy
tax on hotels/motels located in the county.
There
being no one to speak for or against the proposed ordinance,
the public hearing was closed.
IN
RE: PUBLIC
EXPRESSION
Tammy
Tiller, Youth Director at the Stephens Church of God, addressed
the Board regarding the possibility of purchasing a portion
of the county's property that is adjacent to the Church
of God property in the Stephens area.
She asked that the Board consider selling the entire
lot to the church or consider selling a portion which would
allow expansion of the church facilities to accommodate
the church growth.
There
was a delegation of approximately 20 supporting this request.
Two
members of the youth program voiced their support for purchasing
the County property that will enable their church to build
a larger facility.
Chairman
Stallard stated that the Board will take this request into
consideration.
There
being no one else to speak for public expression, the public
expression period was closed.

RE: ROADS AND
HIGHWAYS
The
Coal & Gas Road payments were reviewed.
The
resolution regarding the annual road plan for roads &
bridges was reveiwed.

Robinson gave a brief review of the upcoming Virginia Transportation
Program Meeting to be held at the Southwest Virginia Higher
Education Center in Abingdon, VA on Wednesday, July 11,
2001 at 9:30 a.m.

REPORT
Attorney
Mullins gave a brief report on the proposed cellular phone
tax and how said tax would relate to the towns if the County
were to pursue this tax.
